Obtaining a Connecticut State pistol permit is as simple as completing the steps below. Requirements will vary from town to town, but generally require only a few simple steps:

  • Obtain an application packet and State Form DPS-799-C from your local police station
  • Fill out the application completely except the last section until in the presence of a notary
  • Sign up for the required training course
  • Get fingerprinted by your local authorities or at the Department of Public Safety - Bureau of Identification
  • Submit completed application(DPS-799-C) with proof of training and applicable fees back to your local police department
  • It typically takes 4-8 weeks to receive your temporary permit(8 weeks is the maximum waiting time under C.G.S.)
  • Bring your temporary permit (DPS-11-C) to an approved state police facility to obtain your CT State Pistol Permit
  • Renew your State of Connecticut permit every 5 years and your Massachusetts LTC every year
